A Successful Owner's Flotilla

A Successful Owner’s Flotilla

There is no party like a Moorings Owner’s party, and, true to form, this standard was upheld at the Moorings Owner’s Flotilla that took place last month out of the Moorings Base in Road Town, Tortola. The event was one for the books, and we will reminisce the occasion for years to come. It was a week filled to the brim with sailing, making new friendships and enjoying good times.

The event was hosted by our Owner Care Team—Jenn Andre, Operations Coordinator,  John Keyes, Owner Booking Agent and Christine Joseph, Yacht Sales Agent , and is open to anyone who owns a boat in the Moorings Charter Fleet. The owners then invite friends and family to join them on their boat for a week-long flotilla in the British Virgin Islands.

The week started out on Thursday as everyone began to arrive. To kick off the week, the Moorings Team hosted a Welcome Party. This was the perfect opportunity for owners and staff alike to become acquainted before setting sail to the first stop on Friday morning. On Friday everyone gathered at Trellis Bay for a Stand Up Paddleboard race. The crew of Moorings 4800 “Ru-Ach” took home gold in that event.  The race was followed by libations beach side. On Saturday, the most anticipated event of the week, the cocktail contest, was held at Prickly Pear. There was stiff competition in this event, but in the end the winner was The Prickly Peach, submitted with a Sea Urchin for garnish, from the crew of Moorings 393PC “Zarp”. The name says it all, and this concoction will knock your socks off! In true sailor fashion, the flotilla would not be complete without a regatta. On Sunday, the race was held off of Jost Van Dyke, and the crew of Ru-Ach celebrated their second victory of the week at the notorious Soggy Dollar Bar. On Monday the flotilla sailed to Peter Island, where the annual dinghy race was held. This time it was the crew of  Moorings 4000 “Teekla II” who took home the first place trophy, and the day only got better from there. A talent show ensued and the highlight of the evening was when owners Jim and Margaret Burt performed an original song titled “The Catamaran- We Are Nuts”. The first place finish in the talent show was a well-deserved accomplishment for the crew of Moorings 4000 “We Are Nuts”.  Moorings Owner and talent show winner, Jim Burt shares, “My life is busy like most of us and there are fun moments that are both planned and unexpected that drop into our lives over the course of a year, but none that are more consistently fun and exciting than a Moorings Flotilla.”

The week of fun ended as everyone sailed back to the Moorings Base on Tuesday to say their goodbyes.

We must say, with the 2016 Moorings Owner’s Flotilla being a huge success, we can look forward to the event in 2017. Be sure to read some owner’s reviews below, and check out the photo album on our Facebook Page.
